Not everyone sees the same colors, and a game night should not leave anyone guessing. This version of Qwirkle adds a shape inside each tile to signal its color, plus sharper contrast, so every player can read the board with confidence.

  • Interior shapes indicate color, so matches are visible without relying on hue alone
  • Scoring lines can share the same inner shape and color or the same outer shape
  • A line of six earns a Qwirkle and bonus points
  • Includes 108 wooden tiles, a canvas drawstring bag and the rules
  • Keeps concentration and visual thinking in play while staying easy enough for young players

How it plays at home

The play is classic Qwirkle: add to a line, match what is shared, and count the points. The only change is how you read the tiles, which means a family that includes a color-blind player can finally share the same game on equal terms.

It is also a nice choice for classrooms and mixed groups. Tip: before the first round, hold up a couple of tiles and say aloud which inner shape goes with which color, so nobody has to memorize the key while playing.

Great game to play at home, while camping on a picnic table, or at school

My hubby and I learned about this game from a fellow camper at the campground. This is a fun game that can be played competitively, cooperatively, with each player against each other, with a partner, with scoring, or not. It's like a puzzle combined with dominoes and Sudoku-like problem-solving. I like that elementary students up to adults can play. It takes longer to play for beginners, but folks who've played awhile can get through a game in 20 minutes. I think a timer could be set, and whoever gets the most points in that amount of time could be determined the winner. Or, as a counselor, I could play with a young client and we could work cooperatively to get the most points possible in 15 minutes and keep trying to beat the score each session. This game teaches focus, strategy, thinking ahead (impulse control), and can be used, like any game, to reinforce good sportsmanship—complimenting players on their choices, congratulating the competition on making high-scoring plays. The game also reinforces math (if you keep score), and could be played with earned tokens instead of points. The tiles come in a box, but there's a bag to use while the game is happening. I think it's too much of a pain to put the tiles back in the box—so it would be best just to store the game in the bag. It might be a good idea to laminate the directions so they don't get torn up if stored in the bag. This game would be a great gift for a family.

A color blind version of a great game

This is a very fun and easy to learn game to play with friends or with the kids. The color blind version has shapes in the center of the pieces that can be used to distinguish colors. I also bought the add on of stands, pencil and scorecard - they all fit within the box. The canvas bag and pieces are well made and I expect it to last a lifetime.

As good as the regular game!

Our family loves Qwirkle and this color blind version is even easier for me where I had blue-purple difficulty with the main version. The pieces are a little thinner but the bag stands up now! We end up playing more often and more games each time since this is less frustrating.
