Travel Qwirkle is the version that fits in a tote bag and never asks for a table setup. Qwirkle has no board anyway, so all you need is a flat spot and a few minutes, whether you are at the airport or at a friend's house.

  • Each wooden tile is 3/4 inch, small enough for a pouch yet easy to handle
  • A sturdy travel pouch holds all 108 tiles and the rule book
  • No board is part of the game, which is why it travels so well
  • Ages 6 and up, 2 to 4 players; note the small parts, not for children under 3
  • Same scoring as the full-size game, so nothing is lost by taking it on the road

How it plays at home

Gameplay is the familiar Qwirkle: extend lines of tiles that share a color or a shape and tally the points. Since the tiles are compact, a game can unfold on a seat-back tray or the middle of a camp blanket.

Keep it in the glove box or a carry-on and you always have something to do when a flight is delayed. Tip: tip the tiles out into the pouch's opening and draw from there, so none go rolling under the seat.

Great gift Great game

Bought as a gift. I never played until she opened it. Tons of fun, not too complicated to learn, good for younger kids as well (maybe 6 and up). Bag was sturdy, good travel size

LOVE IT - Super fun game not matter what your age is. Travel version great size.

My 8 year old granddaughter got this game for her birthday and was initially upset. Said it was a "baby's game". Well we all played it and got hooked, including her. All the adults got one and we continue to play it. The travel set is awesome because - well - it travels well, does everything the larger boxed version does, and is actually easier to play because it takes up less room on the table. Because of that, I would recommend the travel version over the boxed version if you are not going to play it at the dining room table. Travel size better for a coffee table and it keeps the pieces in a handy cloth bag. So what is this game? There really is strategy in this game, and of the type that young and old can play together. Its a sort of dominos meets chess mentality in terms of blocking other peoples moves, with a bit of a scrabble type feel only is uses symbols instead of letters. They are a number of ways to come up with a set that can be put down on the table. Points are scored in terms of number of tiles laid down and for complexity such if something goes more than one direction, like Scrabble. Can be learned in minutes, played for hours, and we are all hooked. Granddaughter does not think it is a "baby game" any longer. I got some for adults a gifts. Great cross-generational anyone can play strategic game!!!

fun, fun, fun for all ages

This game is amazing. It has incredible replay value, can be played by children and adults alike (even in the same game), allows for strategy while also leaving the outcome slightly up to luck, and is just plain fun! Our playing style has already started to evolve. We definitely like the travel edition; the pieces are Scrabble sized (consider repurposing a Scrabble board to keep your Qwirkle game neat!) and a convenient pouch is included. I think the only advantage of the regular sized one would be for those with impaired mobility in their hands or vision problems, as the larger pieces would be easier to see and handle. Qwirkle is sort of like Scrabble with shapes/colors instead of words. You lay down tiles that go together to earn points (1 point per tile). Tiles go together in two ways: either because they match shape or color, and you can't duplicate a shape/color combo in a row (eg: not allowed to play two orange squares in the same adjoining row or column). If you can complete a line of all one color (in each of the 6 shapes) or all one shape (in each of the six colors) you get a Qwirkle, which is worth 12 instead of just 6! You play until all the tiles are gone, and the first person to use all of their tiles gets a bonus 6 points. The person with the highest score wins!

So fun and portable

This game is so fun and the travel size is great. I do recommend a game mat/ shelf liner to help keep the tiles in place. Love it.

One of my favorite game

I would play this game with my college friend and professors. I would bring the game with me everywhere to play in restaurant and coffee shop, because of how portable it is. This game connect me with people that I am still close with today. After 4 years of owning the game. I still consider as my top favorite game. The rule is easy to learn, and you can play it competitively or casually, it’s also very relaxing. The only thing I would suggest is including a note pad and pen because I have to keep one in the bad to keep track of score. And also using different because red and orange are very hard to distinguish. But if you’re not color blind then you would have an amazing time.

Just what we were looking for

Just what was expected - a small version of the standard sized Qwirkle. The tiles are little but still maneuverable. We made our own racks by cutting single row wooden domino racks in half. There was room to store 4 of these in the case. Measure first before buying single domino racks. Wish the game came with racks. That would be the only flaw in this product. Recommend.
