The baby chicks have wandered off again, and Mama Hen needs help bringing them home. This edition swaps in sturdy wooden pieces and a little coop so the story can move off the board and into pretend play.

Wooden Mama Hen and wooden chicks replace plain tokens
A chicken coop adds room for pretend play
Spin, count and move across an illustrated board
A game lasts around 15 minutes
For 2 to 4 players, ages 3 and up

How it plays at home

A turn is simple: spin, count the spaces and move along the board. Players cheer for each chick that returns to the coop, and the group wins or loses together. That shared goal is a gentle way to teach children how teamwork feels.

The wooden pieces are nice to hold, and many children will keep playing with the hen and chicks long after the game is over. Keep them in the box with the coop to avoid losing a chick.

Very educational and fun!

Editing to add that the forget to mention that it's a cooperative game. The goal is to get Mother Hen to her chicks, which we've been able to do every time. It's nice that nobody feels like they lost. This game is so cute! My 3.5 year old loves to play it and asks to do so frequently. How can I say no when it's so educational? For each turn you take, you have to count twice (once to move Mother Hen and again to count the chicks). We also have our daughter count when it's our turn so she gets more practice. She's already gotten better at her one-to-one correspondence and learning to slow down to do so. The board is a good quality, but my daughter is a little rough with the chicken coop, so I don't think that'll last. The chicks are small and not that durable. I know they're going to get lost or damaged. Overall, this game is very appropriate for preschoolers / children learning to count to around ten. It makes practicing the math skill fun. My daughter loves it. However, I wish the chicks were a bit more durable. But I'm still so glad I purchased it.

Great for toddlers and younger children

Great game for kids. My three year old grandchild loves it. It is an easy game for young children and an easy game for parents to play with them. I recommend.

Cute game, missing piece

Cute game, but I paid extra for the "deluxe" version, and it came without the chicken coop

Perfect for family game night

My kids love this game (and us parents actually enjoy it too!) Our favorite aspect is that the kids get to work together instead of working against each other. It makes for a very peaceful family game night.

Simple, well-made counting game

Unboxing this game was a joy. All the pieces are pre-cut so you can play right out of the box. The game is simple to understand and super cute. It's really great for reinforcing counting. First you have to count how many spaces you move, then you collect the same number of baby chicks. So on each turn you count twice. Mostly we counted to around 4 to 6 but on some turns we counted up to 14 or 15. I recommended it to a friend who teaches kindergarten math. It's quick to play so it's not a huge time commitment and fits a toddler's attention span.
