This magnetic set suits kids who like to work with their hands and carry their projects along. Blocks click onto a board to copy a picture card, then can be rearranged into anything a child dreams up. It is a good pick for grandparents' houses and road trips.

Wood carrying case with hinges and rope handles
42 magnetic wooden blocks, each a different shape and bright color
50 full-color puzzle cards in beginner-to-expert order
Blocks can double as fridge magnets or car-ride play pieces
Board accepts your own dry-erase markers for drawing

How it plays at home

Start with the easiest cards so toddlers and preschoolers get quick wins, working on fine motor control and visual thinking as they match shapes. As confidence grows, flip to harder cards, or ignore the cards and build a house, a robot or a pattern with no right answer.

Because it closes up like a briefcase, the pieces travel together and stay put. Tip: bring a dry-erase marker along to draw backgrounds around the blocks for a scene.
